My Potty Training Strategy

come thou fount
The problem with children is that they move into new stages so quickly and sometimes before their parents are ready for it. Case in point, me. And Jaxon. And….potty training. I can’t say I’ve really been looking forward to it, but it has been in the back of my mind for awhile as the inevitable just kept looming nearer and nearer. Now that he is almost two (say WHAT?!), I feel like the time for him to transition out of diapers is pretty much now. So, today, I’m going to talk strategy.
I have very mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I am looking forward to not having to buy two packs of diapers every week. On one hand, I feel like Jaxon is ready for it. On theother hand, I don’t think I’m ready for it. I mean…that crinkly diaper sound when he runs around the house? Oh, slay me. Seeing that little diaper peeking out of the top of his little britches? Oh, my heart. The fact that he is my baby and potty training makes them so independent? Ok, I should stop before I start blubbering.
Back to talking strategy, one thing I know going into this new stage, is that I do not want to drag it out. I want to get this over with bam-bam. So I have decided that I am going to allot two days to focus solely on potty training. I am potentially thinking of starting next week…we just have to see if the sentimental mama part of me will agree to that.
So, day one will look something like this:
//Have Jaxon drink lots of water, milk, and juice// He is hugely into drinking water, so this really shouldn’t be that difficult.
//Take bathroom breaks every 20 minutes// He’s being stuffed with liquid…it has to come out sometime, amiright??
//Reward him with M&Ms// He will love this. He will ask for more. He will not get more unless he has peed more. End of story.
My idea is to start him off in pull-ups on day one. I imagine this would be a lot easier to manage than having to take off a diaper all the time. I will probably just let him run around in nothing but a shirt and his pull-up to further help things along. On day two, I plan to [insert whimper] put him in cloth undies. Like I said, I want to get this over with bam-bam. For me, that means getting him independent as soon as possible. Like taking off a Band-Aid folks. I will probably loosely repeat what we do on day one. Probably not as much liquid though, because he might be out of dry undies by the end of the day.
Now, for all of you seasoned mamas out there who have done this once or twice or more, what potty training tips do you have?? Please. Help.
