DIY Cinnamon Christmas Tree Ornaments

diy cinnamon christmas tree ornaments
We set up our Christmas tree last night and today I decorated it. This kind of signals to me “Let the festivities begin!” I know, that’s not what the season is all about. Trust me, I think the older I get, the more I take in the real meaning of Christmas and it all just really blows my mind. How Christ was so willing to come to this earth, to be born in a humble manger, to walk this earth, to minister to people, and than to suffer and die for us. Just…wow. There is so much depth and meaning to the Christmas story, it is just so powerful.
I also thoroughly enjoy the prettiness of the Christmas season. I love the twinkling lights, the Christmas music, the baking, the candy, the wrapped presents, and the carols. May these things only serve to remind us of why we are celebrating, why we are giving. And let’s give the greatest gift of all, our lives, in service to our Lord.
Since I am in the throes of decorating, I thought I would share with you a simple recipe for making cinnamon ornaments. These things are amazing, folks. My mom made a big batch of them years and years ago, and only this year did I decide to make a new batch since the old ones were starting to get moldy and smelling more musty than cinnamon-y. They will make your living room smell so yummy when you hang them on the tree. What better scent than cinnamon to bring on the Christmas feels??
Cinnamon Ornaments
Mix 1 3/4 cups applesauce with 1+ cups of cinnamon  (I had to keep adding cinnamon to get the right consistency) to form a stiff dough. Roll out to desired thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Make hole for ribbon or string (make sure it’s large enough to get your string through). Carefully place on rack to dry. Let air dry for several days, turning occasionally.
And that’s it! How easy-peasy is that?? Please note that these are not edible. And be sure to warn your hubby so he doesn’t walk in the door when he gets home from work and grab a “cookie” off the counter. That would be a rather unpleasant surprise.
I hope you enjoy making these and adding them to your tree décor!
