Taylor's First Birthday

Last Saturday, we celebrated Taylor’s first birthday. Days like that can be bittersweet. It’s hard for me to grapple with the fact that my baby is growing up and is a whole lot closer to being a toddler than being that sweet little baby that we brought home from the hospital. I got all the feels on Saturday when our Facebook memory from a year ago popped up in our news feed. It was Taylor just born, in the hospital bassinet. Cue all the heart eyes.

It was so much fun to celebrate this little guy. We threw a little party for him, including the grandparents and aunts and uncles. It is such a blessing to live in the same community with most of my children’s extended relatives. It makes parties like this, so special and fun.

I didn’t want to make things to complicated while planning his party, so I went with a simple, colorful “theme” of confetti. I cut circles out of bright scrapbooking paper and sewed them together in garlands. I made confetti using the same paper and a pretty hole punch.

The meal I kept simple as well, with Roast Beef Sliders, homemade salsa and chips, and deviled eggs. And, of course, cake and ice cream. It’s not a birthday party without the cake, right?? I made two separate cakes, one for us to eat, and one for Taylor to smash. Gotta keep up with tradition. And I assumed that no one would want to eat a smashed cake.

Taylor did a smashing job with his cake. (Hahaha…see what I did there?) Unlike Jaxon (who on his first birthday would barely touch his cake) Taylor was all over that pile of yummy goodness. He wanted to grab the candle before it was even blown out! As soon as I gave him the freedom, he was fist deep in his cake. And then resumed a feast of sugary yumminess. At that moment, he consumed more sugar than he’s ever had in his life and he loved every minute of it. Big brother was pretty helpful as well with the consumption of the cake. Good times, good times.

Taylor got lots of adorable little outfits that he can grow into in the next few months as well as a few books and a collection of Baby Einstein DVDs. He was completely uninterested in opening his presents and was more interested in playing with the present that someone so thoughtfully brought for Jaxon. Go figure. Thankfully, big brother is a professional at unwrapping presents and was more than happy to offer his services in that department.

The night ended with both of the boys snuggled up with Papa which was a perfect way to wind down after all the sugar that they consumed. I didn’t hear a peep out of them after I put them to bed, they crashed so hard!
I feel so incredibly blessed to have two such sweet little boys. They definitely have their unsweet moments, but I love them dearly and I love watching them grow and experience new things. Stay tuned, sometime soon I want to share a more formal photo shoot of Taylor, as well as his birth story.
Have a lovely day!
